New

Mum got a new fridge over the weekend.  I know Jen'll be jealous, so I'm posting the picture.

The ice maker and all isn't hooked up, but still.  It's nice.  It's supposed to have more room than the old one, with the freezer on top, but I'm not convinced.  Especially in the freezer part, because half of it (it feels like) is taken up with the ice and water dispenser stuff.  But still.  It's nice, and it was free.   Which is even nicer.

Tennessee Roads

I went to hang out with my dad tonight, out in Gallatin.  It's a decent sized town, but between there and here-- not much.  This was my view on the way home around midnight, as I'm just about to cross the river (you can just barely see the green sign announcing the bridge coming up).

It's weird to be driving again here.  Some places haven't changed a bit, like much of this drive along highway 109.  But other parts have changed so much that even though I should know where I am, I get totally lost.  It's mental.

Sewing Project

I learned how to sew in Girl Scouts, and from my mum and grandmas.  I don't get to practice it very often, not having room or a sewing maching... but I've had this project in mind for a while now, so I figured this was the perfect time to start it.

I have accumulated, over the years, loads of t-shirts from various places and events.  I love them, but the more I wore them, the more they were deteriorating.  So I decided to stop wearing them and turn them, instead, into a quilt.  A few years ago, to save room, I cut out the designs on them and stored them.  Today, I've started piecing them together to form a large blanket-sized piece.  It's been challenging, like a jigsaw puzzle, because I didn't think to always leave myself a lot of extra border to work with... but in the end, I got something that I think is workable.  Next step will be to start sewing the blocks together.  I think it'll be neat when I'm done, and even if it's only passable, it'll be mine.
I actually have even more squares, so I'll eventually wind up with another.  Nice.

Noisy Neighbours

They've put this in across the street, which has changed in many ways since I was a kid.

Once, it was just an empty field back to the tree line, and then pretty dense woods behind that for a ways, with the creek running through it.  There were rock cliffs, caves, old barns and houses, lots to explore, until you finally reached the gravel road.  You could follow that up and around the lake, or further in to the old farmhouses, or eventually out to the interstate way, way out.

Now, the trees have mostly been cleared.  The old things have been torn down, and the new school built.  The road is paved, and I don't know where it goes or doesn't go now.  It's a change, for sure.

At least the 'Bark Park' is better than letting all the dogs run wild through the area, which is what happened when I was a kid.

Childhood Memories

Most of the house has been redone in the past several years, including new laminate flooring in every room except the kitchen (which has new linoleum) and the baths (which are basically the same).  However, I found in one wee closet a bit of old carpet left, and it made me smile.

Yes, this used to be in every room of the house, except the kitchen and dining room.  Nice stuff, no?

'My' Room

Just in case you're wondering where I've been spending most of my time...

The Perk

We arrived back in Mt Juliet tonight.  I can't even begin to say how weird it is, starting with the drive down from Cincinnati and my gramma's to being in this house.  Weird.  And disconcerting.  And... weird.

The perk is that I get the big room and the big tv.  No seriously.. this thing is a monster!
It's great for watching Ghost Adventures and Criminal Minds, though.

Stuck

Poor Maggie.  We just laughed and laughed when we came into the playroom today and found her...

stuck.  Makes me wonder what in the world was going on with the Little People yesterday?!

My New Favourite Invention

There was this thing, sitting on the bathroom floor beside the big claw foot tub.  It was kind of dish-like, and the stopper for the drain was inside it.  Fine, the stopper I knew... but this thing, I couldn't figure out.  Then, when I was soaking in the tub to cure my aching back, I started wishing I could fill the bath up higher than the silly little overflow drain allowed.  It's not like it's going to go over my head, and I would very much like it to cover my shoulders, anyway.  Just up to above that wee drain thing would work beautifully.

Then I saw this beaty again, and everything just clicked.  Why, yes, it does suction over the overflow drain perfectly, and it does give me a couple more inches of water!  And yes, it does have a hole on top, so there is still an overflow drain.  Just higher up, which was perfect!

Now I want one!

Clothes Horse

Literally.

I didn't have much room for unpacking my stuff, so I used Neigh, Miss Moo's Christmas pony, to hold my clothes.  I don't think he minded.

Lowering Sky

The photo doesn't really do it justice, but the sky was impressive today.  As was the traffic, which made me very happy to be walking.

Cute? Or Creepy?

This is currently our toilet paper.  I can't make up my mind whether it's disturbing or not.  =D

I Don't Feel Guilty...

about this 'guilty pleasure'.  I've been watching through all the seasons in order.  I love me some CSI: Miami, to feed my Ho-Caine habit.

Sad Selling

Boooo.  I'm selling stuff off that I can't take home, and my games systems are part of that.  I'm bummed-- DDR and Super Monkey Ball have been good friends of mine.

Scots Place Names

Sure, some of them are impossible to pronounce unless you know how.  And some of them are hard to spell, even if you do know how.  This one, however, just cracked Kenny and I up.  He'd been working some in Inverurie, and apparently someone delivering this box didn't really know how to say OR spell it... tee hee!
