Cherokee Steak House

I went out to see dad and Candie again tonight, and we ate at what used to be the very best steak place around: Cherokee Steak House.  It's right on the lake, next to the marina, just past Reba's place.  It was good, but not quite as good as I remembered.  We got steak, baked potatoes, salads, and yummy yeast rolls.  And dad and I split a key lime pie, which was more like cheesecake but still tasty.  I forgot to take a photo while we were there, so I stopped on the side of the road to snap this one on my way home later that night. 

It's worth a visit if you're in this part of the world.  =)

Wee Treat

Mum and I ate at Wendy's tonight, and it was yummy.  Especially the fries and Frosty, which are eaten together, obviously.  The lady working the counter wasn't quite on top of things, but it all worked out in the end.

I even got this year's wee Frosty keyfob, so that I can get a free Jr. Frosty whenever I buy anything there.  Which will be fries, of course, to dip in the Frosty.  Duh.  I should have gotten a free one for paying the buck for this, but like I said, she wasn't too on top of things.  Oh well.  I'll get enough free ones to make up for it then year... I hope. 

The Real Thing

My sister and her family love wings.  I took them to Buffalo Wild Wings once in Lexington, and they've been eating them wherever they live ever since-- at chains or local joints, or making their own.  It's not so surprising they wound up in Buffalo, considering. 

So of course we had to go eat the original wings. 

I'm not a huge fan of the Buffalo style wings, to be honest.  But eating the real deal was an experience.  The place in itself is something to see inside--  madness.  And the wings were fine, of course.  Bubbs would happily eat wings every single day, so at least that's a plus.  He's a picky eater. 

I Follow Orders

We ate out.  A lot. 

The hotel served dinner to guests from Monday to Thursday, which was really nice.  Free food!  But we ended up eating out some of those nights, anyway, if Jen didn't like what they were serving.  In chatting with Paige on Facebook, she instructed me to go eat at Cracker Barrell for her. 

It was goooood.

Suppertime

For the 10th anniversary of my sister and brother-in-law's first date, guess where we ate?

We're stuck in the hotel.  And it's getting way too small, with three adults and two wild kids... so we hit the PlayPlace.  Which is where I spotted these icicles.  Yes, it's cold here. 

Lunch Date

A couple of days ago, I got to have lunch with Kenny and Jacquie, one of his friends whom I've met several times and quite enjoy.  We came here, to the Old Schoolhouse.  I had haggis, neeps and tatties with a whisky cream sauce.  It was delicious.  But better than that was getting to see her before I left, and spending time with Kenny before I leave.  I just didn't think to take a photo til today.

My first attempt at this fabulous dessert-- delicious.  It'll become a regular, I'm sure. 

Pecan Pie: Fail

Oops.  I forgot to pay attention to time, and I don't have a kitchen timer.  So the pie didn't exactly turn out right.  But I could scoop it out and eat it in bits like this, and it tasted just fine.  It just didn't look good at all...

Let It Snow?

Today is Thanksgiving.  And there is a ton of snow on the ground! It's pretty well been snowing off and on since Monday, but this is getting ridiculous.  It's too dang early for this much snow... and they say it's going to keep up for at least a week.  Where am I?! 

Honestly, though, if it's going to be cold, I'd rather it snow.  So as long as I don't have to be out in it, I'm quite happy.

Thanksgiving Early!

Lynch and I travelled down to Edinburgh today on the Megabus (with a lot of rugby fans, going to see Scotland play the Springboks of South Africa at Murrayfield, where I would have been otherwise) to see Paige while she is dog-sitting in Stockbridge again.  We got in and it was raining and cold, so we opted to not do sightseeing today but instead to do Thanksgiving! 

Paige had already shopped and was all prepared to treat us to a feast, so we went back to the flat and helped cook.  Well, partly-- I helped a little, then went to watch the match online.  We won!  It was great.  But I digress. 

We had turkey breast (no whole turkeys found yet), stuffing, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry stuff, almost-from-scratch rolls, green beans... and pumpkin pie!  The real stuff.  Oh baby, it was yummy.  All of it. 

We also had wine, of course, because Lynch and I were present.  We picked one to uncork, and it gave us a run for our money.  Finally we were successful, after a strong joint effort.  Teamwork, totally.

Take Two!

I tired making hush puppies when we were at Paige's, but they didn't work out so well.  This time, however, they did much better. 

Although now I smell like stinky fry oil.  Blech.  Oh well.

guess who's 40! 

We had a 'surprise' fiesta for my supervisor.  It was great fun, and he took it pretty well.  Then again, maybe his hearing is gone so he couldn't hear our teasing.  He is 40 now.  =D

Happy Spider Cake, Paige!

We've had a long and fun weekend in the capitol, but we needed a cake to bring back to wee Alva.  We tried a bakery in Stockbridge, but they were always closed.  So we went to Waitrose, and hit paydirt!  I love his shifty eyes..

This cute guy was even half price.  Now how's that for a birthday gift?!  Happy Birthday, Paige!

Autumn in Paris... Kind Of

I'm not actually in Paris.  I'm in Stockbridge, which is a posh part of Edinburgh, where Paige is flat- and dog-sitting.  But we were getting stuff for our snacky lunch, and bread and cheese and tomatoes and grapes always sounds good, and always reminds us of Paris.  So walking down the street with a baguette in hand reminded us of good times.  And we photographed it. 

Already?!

I popped into Morrisons on the way home from the cinema for a loaf of free bread (I love getting vouchers online like that!), and noticed this. 

In case you can't tell from the photo, that's a whole bunch of Christmas cakes, mince pies, and other holiday goodies.  Now, I love mince pies at Christmas as much as (if not more than) most, but seriously?  It's more than two months til Christmas still!  Oh well.  If I had freezer space, I guess I'd be stocking up.  Or maybe I'll just treat myself early.  =)

Strange Fruit

I bought these bananas at Morrisons, in the same pack. 

How is it that some of them are regular yellow and ripening nicely, and the others are grey and weird?  At least they taste okay. 

Baking Party

When Paige comes up, we cook.  Last time, it was a meal and delicious Pioneer Woman chocolate sheet cake... this time it was Pioneer Woman mocha brownies and chocolate mint chip cookies.  We made decaf coffee, but the only kind I had was Starbucks Christmas blend... so we drank Christmas coffee, listened to Christmas music, and baked yummy treats.  I love cooking, and it's even better to bake with a friend.  =) 

It's a Sign!!

For my dessert, I had two chocolate-covered banana-cicles.  I put them on a plate to thaw a little so I could bite into them.  When I finished, I tossed the sticks back onto the plate.  When I got up to collect the rest of my dinner dishes, along with the dessert plate, I noticed them:

It's obviously a sign I should stay.  =D
