Getting To It

I've started off on the sewing part.  Luckily mum has a new sewing machine I'm getting to break in.

I've discovered that the right tools really do go a long way to making a job easier; now if only I had a seam-ripper....

Sewing Project

I learned how to sew in Girl Scouts, and from my mum and grandmas.  I don't get to practice it very often, not having room or a sewing maching... but I've had this project in mind for a while now, so I figured this was the perfect time to start it.

I have accumulated, over the years, loads of t-shirts from various places and events.  I love them, but the more I wore them, the more they were deteriorating.  So I decided to stop wearing them and turn them, instead, into a quilt.  A few years ago, to save room, I cut out the designs on them and stored them.  Today, I've started piecing them together to form a large blanket-sized piece.  It's been challenging, like a jigsaw puzzle, because I didn't think to always leave myself a lot of extra border to work with... but in the end, I got something that I think is workable.  Next step will be to start sewing the blocks together.  I think it'll be neat when I'm done, and even if it's only passable, it'll be mine.
I actually have even more squares, so I'll eventually wind up with another.  Nice.

Double-Decker

The kiddos have matching hats... which my sister decided to put on at the same time.  As one does, of course.

Hot and Cold

We've spent some time here, thanks to a swimsuit loaned from Carrie Becker (the hot pink one on the back of that chair--we're heading to the exercise room after a swim).  The big pool is usually pretty dang chilly, hence the Cold Pool.  Then there's the Hot Tub, which is nice until the bubbles are turned on-- then it becomes a foamy mess.  Not cool.  Literally and figuratively.  Still, it's good to have a place in the hotel to let the kids get out some of their extra energy.

Carrying Scotland With Me

I finally got my tattoo today.  It's quite a story, but I'll save that for another day.  I love it, though!  A nice permanent reminder of my six years here.  And thanks for the help with design ideas, Paige!

The Triplets of Stockbridge

Today was a true Scottish day-- it was dreich.  It was cold.  It was dark early.  And we spent it at a castle.  And shopping.  All day long.  Good stuff.

We found the mother of all shops, too, at the top of the Royal Mile.  I call it the Mother Shop (a little sci-fi humour there).  I found a nice long-sleeve tee for £2.99!  Lynch and Medlock couldn't resist, so we all wound up with one.  And then attempted to take a photo of the three of us in them.  Ha.  That was a series of photos worthy of Kristianna's photo taking style!  It was hilarious, and I laughed my head off.  This is my favourite photo from the shoot, after a favourite day.

Finishing Gift!

Pagie bought me a great gift for finishing my PhD, and I love it!!

Red is my colour, and these are the university's 'colours', as much as they do that kind of thing here.  Thanks, Paige.  I love it!  And it'll get a lot of use for the rest of the year.  ;)

Fancy

The only good thing about the days getting chilly from time to time is that I get to wear my awesome Ness coat and my awesome Paris chapeau.  I love them.  They make me feel fancy.

Today I wore them to the cinema, and then to meet Rich at Pizza Hut to celebrate the fact that, as of yesterday, he is now Dr. Cornell!  It was great to celebrate and catch up, but I missed Lorie being there with us.  Next time, Lorie!  And thanks for making time to see me, and for feeding me, Rich!  Congrats again!

Sunny Day, Sweepin' the Clouds Away

(sing with me now...) on my way to where the air is sweet... can you tell me how to get--  how to get to...

C'mon.  You rememeber that song, right?  Surely you do.  =D

That is not where I was going today.  But it was a sunny day, with the wind consistently keeping the clouds in motion.  And it was definitely warm enough for me to wear one of my newly-acquired fashionable type outfits.  Thanks, Paige!  I love it when you get tired of clothes.  ;)

So I wore my sundress, just for fun, and sat outside before my counselling appointment (which is where this shot was taken), and then I sat on the green by Elphinstone in the sun and read for a while (til the clouds blew in instead of out... then I went home).  It was so nice.  And probably one of the last good days we'll have this year.

Okay, I'm Ready...

where are we going?

Kenny and I both cracked up at Dillbert, hopping into Kenny's laptop bag.  I guess he could be a fashion accessory, like all those tiny yappy dogs in rich girls' purses.  If Kenny wanted to carry him around in a man-purse, that is.  =)

For Mya

I spent much of the day at the cinema, and wandering the mall between shows.  That's when I found my neice's winter coat:
Next.  They have the cutest kids stuff.  And if I had £28 pounds, I would have bought this.

Oh, and I Almost Forgot...

Yesterday was the big day.  I got my hair chopped off.  See?
It's a cute wee bob.  I feel like someone out of 'Chicago', the musical-- not necessarily the city.  I like it.  It's cute and curly and I like it.  =D
